More sun for day two of Loughborough Carillon Week.  Trevor treated us to turns and trills on the town’s bells and we tripped along in the park to the tune of Tea for Two.  Trevor brought along one of his students, James, who played a rendition of an ABBA melody.  James is returning on Friday to play a recital to give my arms a chance to recover after my recital on Thursday.

Caroline Sharpe played a recital featuring Elgar’s Memorial Chime which was written for the opening of the tower on 22nd July 1923.  Lots of visitors came to the tower to watch the carillonneur in action.

We were really pleased to welcome back Ian Brunt from Newcastle, to play our final recital of Loughborough Carillon Week.

This year we are pleased to welcome back Trevor Workman (Bournville), Mike Boyd (Saltley), Ian Cassells (Perth) and Ian Brunt (Newcastle).  John Ridgeway-Wood, carillonneur from the UK’s newest Carillon, housed in York Minster, will be playing at Loughborough for the first time on Saturday 24th July.  The Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Jill Vincent, will be attending his recital.

On Thursday 22nd July, Caroline Sharpe, Loughborough’s own carillonneur, will be playing Memorial Chime, the piece written by Elgar for the inaugural recital which was played on 22nd July 1923.
