Loughborough Carillon Recitals

[Loughborough] (pronounced 'luff-burra' or 'luff-bruh') is the largest town in Leicestershire, England (City of Leicester excluded). The population of the town in 2001 was assesed at 55,492. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and it is the administrative centre for the Charnwood district.

[Carillon] not Carillion (pronounced 'ca-ri-lon') A stationary set of bells usually for churches and mounted or suspended in the belfry.

Thursday 22nd June - Euro Carrilon:

This year as part of the 10th European Carillon Festival, Loughborough’s Queens Park was visited by a Travelling Carillon.

The Carillonneur of Loreto’s Church in Prague Redek Rejsek played a special recital on Loughborough’s War Memorial Carillon.

Sunday 2nd July - Retirement of Borough Carillonneur Peter Shepherd:

Peter played his final recital as Borough Carillonneur and was awarded the title ‘Carillonneur Emeritus‘ for his 26 years of service.

The details of the recital are published here.

The last Borough Carillonneur to be given the title was Eric Jordan, the town’s original Carillonneur.
